I couldn't wait for Maggie and Alan's winter wedding last weekend in Dubuque, Iowa. They're the kind of couple I dream about photographing: creative, not afraid of bending traditions, and—as you can tell from the photos—adorable together.  Their ceremony venue at the Wartburg Theological Seminary was extra meaningful because they're both currently enrolled as students.
Maggie's dreadlocked hair made an awesome nontraditional up-do.

Maggie and Alan chose to do a First Look before the ceremony.
I encourage all of my brides and grooms to consider participating in this new tradition--
it allows you to share the first moments of your wedding day alone, in an intimate setting, rather than in front of your guests.
Maggie and Alan had their First Look in the third-floor Meditation Chapel at Wartburg with mid-afternoon light streaming through the windows.

After the First Look, we headed out into the cold for a few portraits. Maggie came prepared with snow boots!
